Stephen Vaughn – Discipleship Pastor

Wife: Laurie — Kids: Charity, Chloe, Sarah, Hosanna

About Steve:
I have been happily married since 2000 to Laurie, a most amazing woman and my high school sweetheart. We have four daughters and are fully committed to modeling God’s love to them and nurturing them to become women who stand for His truth. I became a disciple of Jesus after journeying down the path of life in an ardent quest for its meaning. I have found Him to be more than just the Master teacher on the deepest issues of the human soul, but the very author and sustainer of life itself. I am grateful for the privilege of being able to both teach and learn from other believers in the areas of discipleship, community, and spiritual formation here at River Church.

What is your secret ambition?
To serve Christ in India at some point in my life.

Name one thing that most people would be shocked to know that you’ve done?
Shave.

Have you ever gone cow-tipping?
No, I was too busy looking for the mushrooms that grew in their field.

Whats your favorite movie?
Gandhi

Do you like to dance crazy when no one is looking?
Uh…I AM human, like the rest of you!

At the beach would you rather play in the sand, or play in the water?
Honestly, the movie Jaws forever ruined the water side of my beach adventures…sand all the way!

Do you untie your shoes when you take them off?
I mostly wear Sanuks, which are shoe/sandals with “no strings attached”.

Whats your favorite book?
This is the most difficult question I’ve ever been asked. Before my library I stand…completely frozen.

What was your favorite pet you had as a child and why?
My beard. It was more soft and furry back then.

If you knew today was your last day on Earth, how would you spend it and why?
With my wife and kids at home, because that’s where it’s at man.

What is the most rewarding experience you have had and what made it so?
In pro-life outreach, witnessing mothers who chose to turn from abortion appointments and seeing them deliver, love, and raise their babies.

Who or what inspires you and why?
Keith Green, his life and music.  Because, like David, the great psalmist of Israel, he glorified God through music in such a profound, prophetic, and enduring way to his generation.

If you could live anywhere in the world for just one year, where would it be?
Nagaland, India
